The first of the week we had great tuna fishing then they kind of disappeared. There were also lots of sailfish around-I can not remember a summer when we have had as many sailfish as this summer. We caught 4 one day and another boat caught 10 and then 8 the next day. Pretty unbelievable. The middle of the week we had all the dolphin we wanted and then yesterday (Friday) we caught 4 sails, one tuna, one wahoo and some dolphin. We saw a lot more sails but we had some bad luck and only ended up with 4. Some of the other boats that stuck it out on the tunas ended up with decent catches. We've had some good days but mostly it's been kind of slow. We've been catching dolphin and a few marlin. We just finished up the Pirate's Cove Tournament this past week and we won for the biggest yellowfin tuna. Not exactly what we were after but we'll take it. I think we tied for 8th overall (out of 99 boats) so we didn't do too bad. The big news was a 1,228 pound blue marlin that was boated by a Spencer boat. That is a new state record and obviously won the tournament. Hopefully marlin fishing will pick up a little bit and it won't be long before the tunas start showing up in full force again. Anyway, "The Hooker" is getting a new motor this year. We're putting in a 1,150 horsepower CAT. We had a 800 horsepower CAT so our new motor should push along pretty good. We're hoping to cruise at around 26 or 27 knots. We're also putting in power steering, a new gear, new electronic controls, new shaft and a new wheel. We're not quite done but I'm hoping by the end of next week we will be back in the water and ready to go! We've been in the yard since early February so I'm dying to get back out there.
