Things can change really fast around here. The beautiful water that brought the marlins to us pushed out on Saturday night and Sunday was a much different day. The tunas showed up! We had our limit early and tried to find a marlin or two but were unsucessful. Monday was really tough fishing and I think we ended up with 4 tuna. Today is a different day however and hopefully it will change back for us.
Wow, what a day! We had two blue marlin by 9:30 and the third by 11:00. One was around 200 Lbs, another around 350 and the other one around 400. We also had a couple of tuna and about 10 gaffer dolphin. It doesn't get much better than that. I can't wait to get back out there tomorrow.
We were blown out on Wednesday and Thursday but Friday was really pretty-it's finally turned warm down here. Lots of marlin were seen and caught by the fleet but we couldn't find one for some reason. We did end up with a really nice catch of gaffer dolphin-so there was plenty of meat for the party. I hope the marlin stay around for a while-I'm ready for them!
We got blown out on Friday and Saturday but made it on Sunday and Monday. It was pretty slow on Sunday with only a few dolphin and a couple of tuna. Monday was really, really rough but the fishing was pretty good. We had about 35 gaffer dolphin and if we could have kept the grass off our baits we could have done better than that. I've never seen so much grass-I couldn't get out of it. We'll fish today but Wednesday isn't looking good-North winds at 20-25.
On Monday we were covered up with dolphin! We had about 40 nice gaffers in the box when we decided to go off in the deep to look for a marlin. We had a huge blue come up on the short rigger but never really went after the bait. Not much of a tuna bite today for the fleet-maybe they'll show back up on Tuesday.
We hooked 3 big eyes on Sunday but only managed to get one in the boat. We pulled the hook on one and broke the other one off at the leader. The one we did manage to land weighed 177 pounds! A really nice fish-took over an hour and a half to land him. The rest of the day consisted of dolphin.
The weather was much better today-a lot calmer and much more enjoyable. We ended up with around 8 tuna, 2 wahoo and a couple of dolphin. We also lost a sail so overall it was a pretty good day.
The last several days have seen a mixed bag. The tuna bite slowed down a little bit but we managed to still pull out some decent days of fishing. Tuesday and Wednesday saw good gaffer dolphin fishing but Thursday was really tough for us. Only one tuna and 5 or 6 dolphin. The last hour we had 6 tuna bites and didn't get one fish in the boat-that was really disapointing. Today was really rough and we called it day around lunch time. However, we managed to bring home about 7 tuna, several gaffers and a king mackeral. Hopefully the weather will be nicer tomorrow.
Tuna fishing was good again today. We ended up with 15 and also had a few dolphin mixed in as well. The weather still looks good for the rest of the week and I expect the fishing will remain good as well.
The wind really blew Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We finally got back out on Sunday and the fishing was really good. About a dozen tunas and 15 dolphin. That's a pretty good haul. We're fishing all week and the weather looks good so I'll let you know how we do.
The tunas are continuing to make a great showing. We caught our limit again on Tuesday along with a few dolphin. The wind is supposed to blow this weekend so I doubt we'll make it out. It's not supposed to last long however, so hopefully we'll only miss a couple of days.
Great tuna fishing again today. We caught our limit early and headed back to the docks. The weather was nice for a change so between that and the fishing it was a great day to be on the water.
We went out Friday and Saturday but got blown out on Sunday. Friday was a little slow but we managed to get 8 or 9 tuna. Saturday was really rough but the fishing was great. All the tuna we wanted and one topped out at 66 pounds! Those guys had a great time and are ready to come back again. We're booked all this week so I hope the weather and fish cooperate.
